Our Strategy
The Group's Strategic Objectives
-
Continuing the development of our energy producing asset base located in Southern China by developing further hydro and gas-fired power production, in order to maximise cashflow.
-
Continue to efficiently and opportunistically undertake our coal procurement activities in the medium term, and improve operational performance.
-
Further diversifying into clean and renewable energy assets including through the utilisation of Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD).
Flue-Gas Desulfurization (FGD)
Evernal Group enjoys licensing rights to incorporate FGD technologies into its own and other coal power plants in China. FGD technology is used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from exhaust flue gases of fossil-fuel power plants, and from the emissions of other sulfur oxide emitting processes.
During the combustion phase, upwards jets of air will cause the solid fuels to be suspended . The fuel is burnt at a temperature of approximately 760°C to prevent nitrogen oxide from forming. While burning, flue gas such as sulfur dioxide will be released. At the same time, sulfur-absorbing chemicals such as limestone or dolomite will be used to mix with the fuel particles in the fluidization phase, which will absorb almost 95% of the sulfur pollutants.
The practical commercial effect of utilising FGD technology, developed by Amec Foster Wheeler, is that it allows low grade (thus cheaper) coal to be used as the fuel source for the relevant power plants.
In addition, stringent environmental regulations regarding SO2 emissions have been enacted in many countries, including China. Specifically, the local authorities in Southern China established a scheme to promote the adoption of FGD Technology throughout the region’s power plant through offering subsidies and the provision of despatch from the plant.
Evernal’s existing coal-fired power plant is the vanguard project for this scheme in Southern China, being the only coal-fired power plant in the region currently utilising this technology and participating in the local government’s scheme. As such, the subsidies and despatch provision that Evernal qualifies for contribute to the impressive financial performance of the power plant,
With Evernal’s competitive advantage and track record in benefitting from the local government's incentive scheme, Evernal intends to use a proportion of the capital invested into the Group to roll out FGD technology into other thermal power stations located throughout Southern China.
