Corporate Social Responsibility

  • Environmental Performance

We continually strive to improve our environmental performance and the energy efficiency of our power stations.

The Group is continually reviewing its operations to improve production processes, waste management and the use of resources to minimise impacts.

Examples of the Group’s commitment to the environment in which it operates includes:

    a) purchasing and preserving significant tracts of virgin forest surrounding our energy producing assets to create carbon sinks as a way of contributing to the local environment in which our Group operates.

    b) Evernal has on occasion drawn coal stock from stockpiles located in Southern China in order to minimise the damage to the surrounding soil and water table, and also the mitigation of sulphur, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions that arise from long periods of stockpiling.

  • Health and Safety

The foundation of our Group’s success as a business is to generate electricity safely, reliably and economically.

Operating safely is our Group’s highest priority. We genuinely care about the health and safety of our employees, contractors and visitors at our sites.

To achieve this, we have created a culture of responsibility regarding safety, health and wellbeing.  Each of our power plants has its own tailored Health and Safety Manual reflecting the unique operating environment of that plant. All of our employees have access to the best practice protective equipment. Each power plant is also staffed by employees with basic workplace first aid training.

Our track record in health and safety is one that we are proud of, with the instance of injuries at our sites comfortably below the industry average.

  • Clean Technology

As mentioned above, Evernal is a champion of FGD technology, which drastically reduces the SO2 emissions from thermal generation.

Our corporate strategy described in the pages above also has a core focus on increasing the Group’s involvement in cleaner energy technologies.

In short, clean technology is where the future of our Group lies.

    Community Support

As a member of the community in which our power assets operate, we recognise that we have a responsibility to support our local community.
